3 Tips to Enhancing Your Intuition

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

Often people tell me they don’t think they are intuitive or psychic. Some people doubt these abilities even exist. The reality is that EVERYONE is intuitive! We all are born with this ability and use it to some extent or another.

Have you ever been thinking of someone only to have them call you shortly after? Have you ever had a bad feeling about going somewhere only to find out by not going you missed a disaster? Have you ever just had a “gut” feeling about someone, only to have that feeling play out?

The difference between people’s abilities is simply the amount of practice they’ve had with it. Psychics are simply (intuitive) people who have honed this skill like an athlete and can now use this skill at their command.

You can also practice this skill and apply it in your life. It doesn’t matter what your religious affiliation or spiritual belief system is. We all have this ability. In order to get started and move forward, here are three tips to enhance your intuition:

1.    Become Aware

Notice what you notice. Be calm and still and see what you see at any given moment, notice what you hear, notice the sensations in your body. Just being aware of you and your surroundings as much as possible, will start opening doors to your higher guidance. You’’ start to notice the differences in what you see hear and feel and what those differences mean to you. From that you will be able to apply what you’re learning to any given situation.

2.    Trust what you receive

When you start to notice what you are seeing, hearing and felling, you may get the sensation that you are getting a message from this divine guidance, but it can feel like you’re just making it up. One of the most difficult things is for people to trust the messages they are receiving. AS you begin to trust and act on the messages, more will come and you will get clarity around your own method and style of receiving information. The only caveat is that your guidance system will never tell you to harm yourself or others or tell you negative things, like “You’re not good enough.” That is one clear way to tell if the messages you are receiving are valid or not.

3.    Practice, Practice, Practice

Nothing beats practice. Just like any other muscle, the intuitive muscle needs to be exercised. Keep practicing. Try to see if you can tell who’s calling before picking up the ringing phone. Try to guess how many emails you have received before checking it. Make it fun!

When we access this higher intelligence, we are accessing the higher intelligence of the universe. This keeps us in contact with the Divine Intelligence and helps us to know it better. The more we practice, the closer we get to it, and then our lives start changing in ways we can’t even begin to imagine.

Joy and Trust and Being Enough

Sunday, January 2nd, 2011

Wow! It’s the first day of the new year and already it’s flying by! I meant to post this yesterday – sort of as a summary/year- in-review kind of thing and the day just slipped away and now so has today!

Yesterday I spent almost the entire day doing my annual ritual of Releasing the old year and preparing and planning for the new. As many of you already know, each year I pick a “theme” for the year. Last year my theme started out as “Choose Joy”. In other words, I really wanted to focus on only doing things that truly brought me joy. What a found out really quickly, was that in order to follow joy and actually choose it, takes a lot of TRUST! A lot of trust in God, the Divine, the Universe, whatever you want to call it.

You have to truly believe that if you choose what serves you best (and, hopefully, inherently that brings you Joy), you will be supported and the Universe will come running to meet you and help you along. It is true that that happens, but learning that lesson can be a bit scary at times. So, it seems my theme really ended up being about TRUST – and one of the basic lessons that I teach my clients, students, followers and friends (and in 2010, myself):

Follow Your Heart

Trust in The Divine

It’s really as simple as that – notice I said SIMPLE – not EASY!!! Not easy at first, that is – but like anything else, it becomes much easier with practice. And now, I start my day with asking

“Where do I need to be or what do I need to now today?”

and TRUSTING that I will be supported (even if outside circumstances don’t suggest that). So, I encourage you to connect to that all-knowing Source, listen to that still, small voice, and then… follow it… and if that seems really scary…

then… TRUST!!!

You won’t be led astray – I promise.

This year I chose the theme of Being Enough…more on it tomorrow!

Real Women Real Results Interview

Today I was interviewed by Terri Craig of the Houston chapter of eWomen’s Network. She has a radio show in which she interviews successful women. We had a really nice chat about my background and how I got to be where I am today – doing what I love! We also talked a little about the work that I do and at the end I gave a few words of advice to those of you still out there in jobs you’re not happy with, wondering if that is all there is to life.

Here it is: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/realwomenrealresults/2010/12/09/the-terri-craig-show-real-women–real-results-1

I’d love to hear from you what you think of it!

Risk-Taking: The Courage to be Authentic

Thursday, October 28th, 2010

What could be riskier than diving out of an airplane or climbing a glacier-covered peak or accelerating a race car into a curve at the Indy 500?
For one person it might be quitting a secure, well-paying job to go back to school. For another, it could be deciding to leave a marriage after 18 years or reporting that the company they work for is endangering the environment or people’s lives.

For me it was quitting a well-paying job to work for myself at something I loved and had a passion for. It certainly wasn’t easy – but, there came a point when I knew I had to take that leap of faith to else continue down the path of drudgery I was feeling.

Though it may not appear so at first glance, psychological risks that summon us to put our personal values and beliefs on the line may ultimately feel more dangerous than those of physical derring-do. Yet these are the challenges that we are asked to face time and again if we are to continue to grow as individuals. Each time we take a risk that contributes to our personal growth or enhances our self-esteem or enriches our lives, we make the choice to stretch ourselves, knowing there are no guarantees and chancing possible failure.

I knew that even if I failed, I would have felt better for trying – I would have continually regretted not at least going after my dream. That alone made it all worth it!
Growth-producing risks generally fall into three categories:
Self-Improvement Risks These are the risks you take when you want to get ahead, learn something new or make a distant dream a reality. You take on the venture with hopes of enriching your life. Maybe you want to change careers, or take singing lessons, or learn to speak French. On one side of the risk is the person you are and, on the other, the person you want to become.
Commitment Risks All commitment risks have emotional stakes whether you pledge yourself to a person or a relationship or to a cause, a career, or a value. According to Joseph Ilardo, author of Risk-Taking for Personal Growth, if you avoid making emotional commitments, you all but guarantee that your emotional growth will be stunted.
Self-Disclosure Risks Communication risks fall into the category of self-disclosure. Anytime you tell someone how you really feel you’re taking the chance of self-disclosure. When you open up to others and reveal who you really are, how you feel and what you want and need, you make yourself vulnerable. It is impossible to be assertive without doing so.
All risks carry with them the possibility of failure. Often significant sacrifices must be made before any real benefits are realized. Routines may have to change; the familiar may have to be released. You may be rejected or humiliated. In the case of commitment to a value, personal safety may be in danger. Consider those who stand up for what they believe in or put their own health and well-being on the line in the name of a cause. Challenging yourself is often the key to personal growth and development.
Are you a risk-taker? Ask yourself the following questions:

  • Does every decision involve endless debates with yourself?
  • Do you accept less than what you should because you’re afraid to speak up?
  • Do you have difficulty making emotional commitments to others?
  • Do you make up excuses that stop you from taking advantage of opportunities for self-improvement?
  • Does fear of disapproval keep you from doing what you’d really like to do?

A “yes” answer to these questions indicates a reluctance to take risks, which may mean you tend to play it safe and reject change.
Consider this: to fulfill your potential, to discover your real self and live an authentic life, you must take risks. And while security may appear to be the absence of change, the only genuine security lies in taking risks.

4 Easy Tips for Dealing with Change and Transitions in Your Life

Tuesday, October 12th, 2010

It is said that nothing ever dies – it simply changes.  Maybe that’s true – but then what? Change???? Most people struggle deeply with the idea of change.  Companies have entire departments devoted to “managing change” so that employees can deal with it effectively.

Resistance to change comes from a fear of the unknown or an expectation of loss. The first aspect of a person’s resistance to change is how they perceive the change. The second aspect is how well they are equipped to deal with the change they expect.

How much a person resists change is determined by whether they perceive the change as good or bad, and their expectations of how severe they expect the impact of the change to be on them. In order to ultimately accept change, we need to have adequate resilience and excellent coping skills.

However, not only is change inevitable, but it is required if you are to be successful in business and in life.  How can you ensure that when change is required, you handle it skillfully and with grace? Here are four tips for dealing with change when (not “if”) it comes into your life:

Ensure that you have a quality support system
It is so important during times of transition that you have a good support system around you. This could be family and friends, or a business mastermind group. Depending on the type of transition you are going through, different types of groups might prove to be more effective than others. It is imperative that you have some sort of mentor.

Look for the silver lining in the situation
Every cloud has a silver lining, as they say. Even if it appears that the world is falling down around your ears. Take some time and look at the situation. See what can be found that is positive. For example, even if you lose a job, perhaps that job wasn’t the best fit for you and now you are free to pursue a long-lost dream or some other opportunity that will make you much happier.

Continue your spiritual practice
This is not the time to quit praying, meditating, journaling or doing whatever it is that centers you and brings you peace and serenity. If you don’t already have a daily spiritual practice, then please start something before you find that you need it! It could be something as simple as taking five minutes each morning before you get out of bed to quiet your mind, breathe deeply and review your plan for the day; or write whatever comes to mind in your journal for 10 or 15 minutes each morning or evening. Just five to ten minutes each day will provide you enough peace of mind to get through any of these obstacles, with at least some amount of grace.

Create a structure to support you
When all else is failing or seemingly In chaos around you, it is important to have a structure to cling to. This can mean having a simple daily routine that you keep to each day. For example, getting up, meditating, having breakfast, etc. at the same time each morning. In the evening, spend a few minutes relaxing before eating dinner and settling in for bed. Whatever your routine is, stick to it! This will provide an important framework and touchstone amidst the change and confusion that may be going on externally.

As you can see, while change may be inevitable, it doesn’t have to be traumatic. Keep your life as simple and structured as possible, with downtime and spiritual connection included and you will find that “This too shall pass” – you will soon be acclimated to the change that has occurred and it will be smooth sailing from here on out!

It’s Been Too Long!

Monday, October 11th, 2010

Hello, dear friends – I can’t believe it’s been a month since I last posted here – but, what a month it’s been! However, I am making a commitment to post at least three times a week from now on. So, now let me tell you what’s been happening!

Since I last chatted with you, I have restructured my website due to a Mastermind meeting I attended. I have been part of a Mastermind group to help me move my business forward quickly. What transpired out of that meeting (aside from a new haircut and color – checkout the Facebook pics!) is that I am now adding Astrological readings to my services that I provide. I have come up with several packages which include coaching, energy healing and astrology. Check them out here: http://www.theblissfulsoul.com/products-services/

You can see that I have named the Astrology reading, “Soular Blueprint” because I am specifically looking for the Blue print of your purpose here. This tool is really great for setting your direction in life and for making you aware of any “bumps in the road” so to speak. With your Soular blueprint your are able to be aware of what’s coming for you in the near future. It isn’t so much fatalistic – think of it as a weather report in which you are being told the conditions for certain things to happen – what you do with that information is still based on your free will.

I am also doing more energy healing – I have studied with many teachers including Echo Bodine, Carol Lowell, Dr. Eric Pear (The Reconnection/Reconnective Healing), Deborah King (21st Century Medicine), among others. I can do distance healing or you can see me in person in my office at the Spectrum Center in Houston. I am also looking for a location to do these healing sessions in the Austin area. If you know of a place, please let me know! I beleive this is a great way to clear any blockages you have to move forward and live your purpose.

My new tagline is “Transform Your Life Through Ancient Wisdom and Modern Science”. Basically I feel that these modalities, Astrology (Ancient Wisdom) and Modern Science (Energy or Vibrational Healing) really go well together to help people transform QUICKLY! Why is this? Because everything is energy! We are just now beginning to understand why this works – but, it has something to do with the fact that everything is energy and has a vibration to it. The new quantum physicists are learning more and more about this phenomena everyday. We are all connected, we are all one – we are all a part of this energy field and that is why the movement of the planets is able to correspond to things that are going on on this Earth plane and this movement is even connected to us at a cellular level (hence, the energy healing) and so on and so on! Really fascinating stuff – I don’t claim to be a scientist and so can’t explain well how it works, but I know that it does.

On a spiritual level, I attended a Sufi school in Austin and finally met my spiritual teacher, Sidi Mohammad Al-Jamal of Jerusalem – something I had been waiting over a year to do. What a holy man. It was wonderful to be in the presence of someone who so fully embodies the idea of “Let Go and Let God.” He lives in a total state of trust in the Divine, which is something I teach, but I am not to the level he is!! I also received a Sufi name from him that weekend. It is Mahabba, the Deep Love which is the foundation of all that is. This is something I will spend much time learning about and growing into!

I have also been teaching my Ritual Class at various venues and making plans to teach an 8 – week teleseminar on Finding Your Life Purpose using various techniques to connect with Source. This will begin in November, so I hope you can join me then!

In the meantime, please contact me if you would like to check out the astrology, energy healing or one of the coaching packages that uses both techniques. Also, please forward my website to anyone who you feel would be interested in these offerings!

Until then,

Peace adn Deep Love,

Patricia (Mahabba)

The Art of Letting Go – 5 Simple Steps to Letting Go and Living Life

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

In any spiritual path one follows, inevitably, the idea of letting go rears its head. Why is it so important? Why is it so difficult? We can face this conundrum in a myriad of ways. Not only on our own path, but also when dealing with others  – for example when we are dealing with other people, we must approach them free of expectations and requirements; in many forms of meditation, we are asked to let our thoughts go as they appear; in counseling sessions, we must let go of preconceived projections and outcomes.

What are some of the things we need to let go of? Well, the list is infinite, but here’s some food for thought: shame, guilt, fear, anger, bad relationships, expectations, grief, resistance, dependency…

And through all of this letting go, the mind is clinging with fierce determination to what it knows. “The devil you know is better (safer) than the devil you don’t!” we exclaim. The dangerous unknown lurks in front of us like an abysmal hole. The purpose of the mind or Ego is to keep us safe – that part of ourselves will do whatever it takes to accomplish its mission of keeping us safe from harm – and what could be more unsafe than the unknown or change? However, a full cup cannot be filled with something new – it must be emptied first.  Let go!

If we can allow ourselves to open up with grace (or without, as the case may be) and trust to the unknown and something different, what we find is a whole new world of options and possibilities. The Divine has more in store for us than we can imagine for ourselves, but our job is to have faith and let go!

The question is how? How can we let go when our “monkey mind” is clinging tight to its vine? There are 5 simple steps to easing into faith and “letting go and letting God”:

1.    Label that part of yourself that is afraid. Give it a name and make it as real in your mind as possible. This gives you something to focus on.

2.    Let it express its fear through journaling or meditation.

3.    Speak to it gently as you would a frightened child. Don’t dismiss it – it will only cry louder!

4.    Get silent and still so that you can hear the still, small voice within – this is what will tell you your next step, if any.

5.    Breathe! It is so important during these times of change to remember to breathe.

By giving voice to your fears, you allow that voice to know it’s being listened to. Only then can it begin to be comforted. Then the monkey can finally let go of that vine – that’s the only way you’ll be able to catch the next vine – much like a trapeze artist, in order to catch one trapeze the artist must let go of the one they are holding and trust that the one they need will be where it needs to be when they let go.

Remember that when a window is closed, a door is opened. Go ahead, close that window! Let go and live life!

Life is A River

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

This past weekend I had the good fortune to be able to spend some time with some very dear friends. We drove to New Braunfels, TX and rented inner tubes and followed in the age-old tradition of “tubing” down the river.

As we made our way down the river, I was reminded so many times of how the river mimics life. I’ve summarized some of my thoughts here:

1. Take the Plunge!

Obviously the first thing you need to do is to get in the water. How true this is in life. For anything to happen we need to take action. Some of us do it timidly and some of us just go for it. Many of us at the river chose to jump in and “Just DO it!” – the temperature differential between the scorching sun and the frigid waters is outright painful, but once we were in , it quickly felt cool and refreshing. Others chose to slowly wade in a step at a time – getting accustomed to the temperature with each step.  Which one are you? Do you jump in a take risks? Or are you more careful? Perhaps a mix of both?

2. There WILL be white water.

Sometimes the way will get bumpy and rocky. This can be frightening, but it can also be exhilarating! If you hold on tight and are prepared (lift up your backside to avoid the rocks), you will fly through this time. In the words of Winston Churchill, “If you are going through hell, keep going.” If you aren’t paying attention, you could find yourself upside down in the water and your tube floating away!

3. Sometimes Action is Required.

There are times when you can lie back and drift and the river will carry you forward. However, there are other times when you need to paddle to get some forward motion or even get up out of the tube, sling it over your shoulder and walk over the shallow areas. In the ebb and flow of life, there are times to sow, take action; and there are times to wait patiently as the fruits of our labor our revealed. Be easy and “go with the flow”! When you wish you were in a different part of this cycle, just know that “This too shall pass!”

4. You will meet all kinds of people along the way.

There will be people that are friendly, people that don’t want you around, and people who get in your way. How you react to them shows how you handle life. Are you aggressive? Assertive? Easy-going? Complacent? Do you need to make changes in how you deal with others?

5. There is a predetermined flow, but you have free will to take another path.

While the river has a general flow to it, you still have the chose to go in a different direction. You could paddle upstream, head towards the right bank rather than the left, get out an rest for a while, or get out and start walking to your destination. Always remember that you have the choice to be the creator of your own life.

So, just remember as you go through your days that you are the creator of your destiny and you have the power to make things happen – and when things don’t go the way you had intended, this too shall pass!
